MEAD Heavy Civil announces partnership agreement with Baton Rouge construction firm, Genesis 360, for $16.7 million contract with The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District for improvements to the Galveston Harbor Channel, Texas Pelican Placement Area.

Pelican Island, situated north of Galveston Ship Channel, is a critical barrier island that protects the harbor and port assets at the Port of Galveston.  Scope of work for improvements include dike construction, perimeter and lateral ditching, demolition, fabrication of weir structures and rip rap placement.

“We are honored to be part of the construction team with Genesis 360. It is a big win for our team as we continue to grow and expand our portfolio as a full-service construction partner,” said Keifer Sanders, owner and president of MEAD Heavy Civil.

“Coastal conservation and revitalization projects like the improvements we are tasked with here will not only improve the physical infrastructure but increase the vitality of the area, further positioning it for a wide range of economic opportunities both locally and regionally. That kind of impact really moves us – and what we strive for with every opportunity,” added Sanders.

“Furthermore, we’re eager to collaborate with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District on dredging requirements to maintain the long-term health of these waterways,” Sanders concluded.

The Galveston Harbor Channel, Texas Pelican Island Placement Area improvement project is expected to be completed by spring 2025.
